2: CENTERS AND ENDS

During a sequence, dancers will find themselves in a wide variety of formations. One term that is commonly used to identify dancers and which can be applied to many different formations is Centers. The contrasting label, used to identify the dancers who are not Centers, is Ends.

In the following pages we will describe how these terms are applied to some of the more common formations.

Note that, unlike terms such as "Heads" and "Girls", the terms "Centers" and "Ends" have no relationship to the original squared set. They depend entirely on the current formation, and dancers will be switching their Center/End identity many times throughout a tip.
