In any four-person box, the dancers who are facing out of the box are called leaders. (Or sometimes simply leads.) The dancers who are facing into the box are referred to as trailers.

The same terms can be used to label just two dancers, one standing in front of the other.

If all of the dancers in a box are facing into the box, they are all trailers.

If all of the dancers in a box are facing out of the box, they are all leaders.
