7.1: FACING IN OR OUT OF THE SQUARE

MORE INFO
Pass In
Pass Out
Pair Off
There are several calls which involve doing a 1/4 turn towards or away from the center of the square.

Pass In means to Pass Thru and then turn 1/4 towards the center of the whole square. The dancer will not necessarily be facing directly towards the center -- the dancer simply turns 1/4 in whichever direction would be more towards the center.

Similarly, Pass Out means to Pass Thru and then turn 1/4 away from the center of the whole square.

The call Pair Off means that dancers who are facing each other should turn 1/4 away from the center of the square to become a couple. If they are far apart from each other, as in a squared set, then they will first move forward -- this is often used to start a sequence (e.g., "Heads Pair Off").
