1.2: WAYS TO USE THIS GUIDE

If you are considering learning A-1: This guide can help you figure out whether and how you should do it. This guide gives an overview of all the calls of A-1, so you can judge for yourself if you are likely to enjoy learning them. Depending on how easy it looks to you, you may decide you are better off taking a regular class, some sort of accelerated class, or waiting until you have had more experience with Plus.

If you have already learned A-1: This guide can help you review the calls and identify ones on which you may need to do more work. You can use the links to reference material to study those calls in more detail, or ask your instructor or club caller for help with them.

If you want to learn A-1 by self-study: Very few people can learn a square dance program without some practice in actually dancing the calls. However, if you are the sort of person who can learn by reading and study, it is possible to greatly reduce the amount of dancing time you need to get started, so that you don't need to take any kind of formal "class". This is definitely not the way to go for everybody, but it may be the best choice in certain circumstances (e.g., if there are no classes available). This guide will take you through the calls of A-1 in an organized way, starting with ones that are similar to ones with which you are familiar and progressing to ones with more new aspects. The descriptions in this guide will not tell you everything you need to know about all the calls, but the rest of the information is available through the MORE INFO links to additional pages. It is recommended that you first read through this entire guide once, to get a general sense of all the calls, then go back and read the reference material. The places where it is especially important that you read the additional material are marked with yellow links.
