11: ALLEMANDE LEFT / RIGHT AND LEFT GRAND

From either a squared set or from a circle formed from a squared set, each boy will have his corner to his left, and each girl will have her corner to her right. The corners start an Allemande Left by facing each other. Note that to do this, each boy will start by turning a bit to his left, and each girl will start by turning a bit to her right. They step forward and take hold of each other's left forearm, and then turn around each other halfway, using their joined hands as a pivot. (This part of the action is more generally called an Arm Turn.) They then drop hands and step forward so that they are directly facing their partner.

After an Allemande Left the dancers are now in a different kind of a circle, facing each other rather than side to side. From here, Right and Left Grand means to do a sequence of four actions. First the dancers who are facing will do a Pull By. Once they have passed each other, they will be facing another dancer, and they then do a Left Pull By -- the same idea as a Pull By, but using left hands. Then with the next person they do another (right) Pull By, and then finally another Left Pull By. After doing "four hands", they are again facing their original partner.
