3.2: SPLIT WITH DIAMONDSIf each half of the square is a diamond, then Split Counter Rotate means that each of those diamonds should counter rotate around its own center point. From "twin diamonds" (where the centers of the two diamonds form a wave), Split Counter Rotate 1/4 results in "point-to-point diamonds" (where one point from each diamond is adjacent in the very center) -- and vice versa.
![]() Within each diamond the centers remain centers and the points remain points. But as the diamonds counter rotate, the role of a particular dancer in the overall formation (e.g., very center, out-facing point) will change. Note also that the square must "breathe" when the diamonds counter rotate. This is because the points of a diamond are further apart than the centers. So when the two diamonds are "point-to-point", their center points will need to be further apart than when they are adjacent with a wave down the middle. The center points of the two diamonds will actually move on the dance floor -- but each dancer will remain the same distance from the center point of his or her own diamond.
